Our Story

Jason and Shannon were both part of Iowa State's meteorology club. During the 2007 spring semester, the club held a video game night. This is where Jason and Shannon first met (in fact, Shannon beat Jason at a couple of rounds of Halo - King of the Hill). While they didn't really talk much that night, Shannon did meet and talk with one of Jason's roomates, Justin Schultz. Justin invited her to come to lunch with a group of meteorology students. Shannon barely said one word during the lunch, so Jason decided to message her online later to find out more about her.

After a few hour-long conversations, they realized that they had a lot in common. Jason was taking Music 120 that semester and Shannon had music lessons, both of which required attending a certain number of concerts. So, they met up for a jazz band and a percussion ensemble concert. Some video games, a VEISHA festival, and another meteorology club event later, and they were dating. The transition into dating was so gradual that they couldn't actually remember an official start to it. Knowing that it happened toward the end of the spring semester, Jason and Shannon picked May 1, 2007 since it was easy to remember!

Around two years later, July 12, 2009, Jason came over to Shannon's house in Ames and proposed! Shannon remembers how Jason seemed a little nervous the first time they met up for a concert, his hands shaking a little while reading the program. He never seemed nervous again until the day of the proposal. Shannon noticed that his hands were shaking a little as he kneeled down and held the box out to her!
